Small Business Gift Guide: Beauty

I am so proud of this gift guide. It's full of some of the most unique businesses backed by the most incredible people. Now, more than ever, we need to shop small, support small, and protect small. Our small businesses are the lifeline of our communities. Many of the people in this list were guests on my Side Hustlers podcast and a lot of them left their day jobs to follow their dreams of being a full-time entrepreneur. This list is "Carla Marie Certified" - I have either shopped, visited, or had the owner of the business on my podcast. I've been obsessed with small businesses and discovering new products for years and have made it my mission to be their megaphone. This list is full of my favorite accessories from small businesses but I've separated some of them into other categories for you; men, seattle-area businesses, accessories, home/things, and clothes.

A lot of these companies are running Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales so I would shop early. Keep in mind, this isn't small business Prime, they will take a little longer to ship because the are small. Give yourself time when ordering.

As you browse the gift guide you'll see I mention the location of most of the businesses, this will help you if you want to shop local to your area or local to the area of the gift recipient.

If you can't support by shopping here are some FREE ways to support that I know ALL of this businesses will love: follow them on Instagram, like their posts when you see them in your feed, comment on their posts with words (emojis don't help the algorithm), share posts with friends who you think will like to see them, and BOOKMARK the post (Instagram weights this very heavy in the Instagram formula). The more people do this for small businesses the more their posts will be shown to others. You're basically giving them free marketing.

LAW Beauty Essentials

You really can't go wrong with nail polish as a gift! It's perfect for someone you're super close or or a co-worker you don't know as well. LAW Beauty Essentials has unique and sophisticated colors. It's cruelty-free and vegan as well as 13 free which means it doesn't have 13 of the chemicals a lot of nail polish normally does. Two of my favorite colors are "Networth How Much?" and "Mojito Please". Listen to LAW Beauty on Side Hustlers here and then listen to her on this second episode where we focused on what it's like being a black female business owner.

Dreamy Suds

I'll be honest, I was never a fan of bars of soap until I used a handmade bar of soap from Dreamy Suds. They smells great and they're GOOD for you because there are NO chemicals. Shop lotions, bath bombs, body parfait and more! They also look pretty. Missy created Dreamy Suds after her friend was going through chemo and couldn't use certain chemicals, turns out there are a lot of chemicals in our everyday soaps so Missy began hand making soap for her friend. Dreamy Suds was born from this idea and has been a side hustle to Missy's day job here in Washington ever since! Listen to Dreamy Suds on Side Hustlers.

The Beachwaver

I've bought a Beachwaver for every female in my family at some point! It's crazy to say I knew Sarah Potempa, the creator of The Beachwaver when she was shipping them by hand out of a warehouse in New Jersey. Sarah has now has gone on to style for HUGE events like The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. While The Beachwaver has become world famous, it's still a small biz run by Sarah and her two sisters. My go-to Beachwaver since is the 1-inch. If you have super shot/fine hair I recommend the .75 inch. And if you like really big curls and have a lot of hair I recommend the 1.25 inch (I have all three). Sarah recently launched a partnership with Stila Cosmetics to create the glitter Beachwaver and I am IN LOVE. The Beachwaver is the ONLY product I've used to curl my hair in seven years. You can also shop hair care products and accessories from The Beachwaver! Use code CARLAMARIE30 for 30% off site-wide until Friday 12/4 at 5:00pPT!

Outlaw Soaps

This soap is for the badass on your list. Shop everything from Hair of the Dog Whiskey soap or Calamity Jane lotion. You'll find a ton of handmade all natural soaps from Outlaw Soaps. The founders of Outlaw Soaps are wife and husband, Danielle and Vincent, and they live in California. Danielle actually wrote an amazing book/fill in journal, You-nicorn: 30 Days to find your inner unicorn and live the life you love if you want to pick that up too! Listen to Outlaw Soaps on Side Hustlers.

Dina's Kiss and Makeup

My go-to salon for my hair color from pink to blonde and makeup is Dina's Kiss and Makeup. Dina has her own line of vegan makeup and it's my favorite makeup. You can buy it at her salon in Seacaucus, New Jersey and online. Make a custom palette for the makeup lover on your list. The craze has been Dina's candles! When she had to close her salon during quarantine Dina began making candles and people become OBSESSED. Where else can you find a candle that you want to eat! Shop standard candles or candles that look like cappuccinos and birthday cakes!

The Groovy Goat

My best friend, Alex sent me a body scrub from The Groovy Goat Co. and I LOVE it. Shop all-natural soaps, scrubs, candles and lotions all handmade in Tennessee. The Groovy Goat Co. does not test on animals and has 100% compostable/recyclable packaging! Why the goat? The owner, Dakota, has three pet goats!

Jacob H+

Soap and candles with a purpose is a great way to shop. Everything is handmade with love and no chemicals! Jacob H+ is run by husbands and teachers, Jeff and Brandyn, who wanted to find a way to make some extra money to grow their adoption fund. When you shop their soap, candles, bath bombs and more you are helping them grow their family! There's even an option to buy a puzzle piece, they'll write your name on the back and the money will go directly to their adoption fund and you'll be a part of the puzzle.
